Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Students remembered Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and paid tribute to his legacy in a variety of divisional programs today. Third grade students read a poem and then were led in an original song composed by BT teacher, Mr. Brian Singer. Third grade parent, Jenny Dansicker, was on hand to capture this moving song, entitled "I Have a Dream", in video and shared her sentiments. "We all have a dream...today a part of my dream came true in the voices of our children. May we all bring peace to those we know and love today, tomorrow and always....in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Thank you to the author of this special song, Brian Singer and to the third graders of Beth Tfiloh for making this beautiful message ring through our hearts and minds today." In the High School, students convened for their Friday Assembly and viewed a film of Dr. King's life, including segments of his famous speeches. Three students spoke about Dr. King's life, in Hebrew and in English, and compared his life to that of Theodore Herzl, who dreamed of a Zionist state but never lived to see his dream realized. Morah Rachel Glazer led the students in a Hebrew song dedicated to Dr. King.

The program concluded with Mrs. Laura Frank speaking about the situation in Beit Shemesh and then showing a video of a "flash mob" dance by the women of Beit Shemesh that was orchestrated as a non-violent demonstration against extremism, in the spirit of Martlin Luther King. Mrs. Frank explained that the dance was the brainchild of American women who had made alliyah who were no doubt inspired by American ideals of non-violent protest which were exemplified by the life and dreams of Martin Luther King.
