The Middle School Program

The Middle School at Beth Tfiloh Dahan offers a program that encourages individual excellence academically, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. Our students represent the entire spectrum of the Jewish community. In our Middle School they find an environment that encourages a love of Judaism, text skill development, and independent thinking. We recognize that excellence is as individual as our students, but underlying every effort is a common vision of growth and transition.

The Middle School’s distinctive structure enables our faculty to support the developmental needs of our students. A “pod” system designates one floor of our facility for our 5th and 6th grades while our 7th and 8th grade classes are located on a separate floor.

We view our 5th and 6th graders as students who are transitioning into a Middle School environment, and their activities and programs have been created with their developmental needs in mind. On the other hand, we view our 7th and 8th graders as transitioning into a high school environment, and as a result emphasize self reliance, independence and self advocacy. Both our 5/6 and 7/8 pods nurture and support our students while they are learning more about themselves as individuals.

During the Middle School years our students attain the milestone of Bar/Bat Mitzvah. We recognize this is a profound developmental stage as well as an important event in the student’s personal and religious life. Our faculty, advisory structure and curriculum support the student in balancing school work with an understanding of this significant event.
