Willie & Sophie Mazer remembered at annual Chanukah Luncheon

Members of the BT Synagogue Staff enjoyed memories of Willie and Sophie Mazer (z”l) at the Annual Chanukah Luncheon, conceived and endowed by the Mazers.

Willie's ties to Beth Tfiloh go back to his childhood when he attended Beth Tfiloh with his father. As an adult Willie continued to be an active member of the synagogue and Brotherhood as well as serving as an accountant for the Congregation. Beginning in 1999, the Mazers hosted the first Chanukah luncheon. Sophie served the soup, and Willie entertained attendees with stories about the “old days” when there were only three people in the administrative offices, one rabbi, and handwritten ledger books. After Sophie passed away in 2003, Willie and his daughter Roslyn and son-in-law David Holzworth, continued this tradition.

With Willie's passing last year, Roslyn and David have continued to personally host this annual Chanukah luncheon. The BT staff valued the opportunity to remember Willie and Sophie's love and commitment to Beth Tfiloh, while enjoying a much-deserved break from their dedicated service to the Congregation.
