Mock Trial Team Reaches Circuit Semifinals

The Beth Tfiloh Mock Trial Team’s outstanding 2015-2016 season wrapped up with a 5-1 record, bringing them to the Circuit Semifinals. This year’s team began the season with something to prove -- the 2014-2015 team had won the Circuit Championship and competed in Annapolis as one of the four state semifinalists. However, four members of that championship team graduated in 2015, and the new team included five first-year competitors.

Despite the team's relative youth, Beth Tfiloh opened the season with convincing wins over the Park School and Towson High School in the tournament's preliminary competitions. In the single-elimination tournament, Beth Tfiloh advanced to the second round by forfeit, and defeated the Carver Center for Arts and Technology and the C. Milton Wright High School in the next two rounds. In the Third Circuit Semifinals, Beth Tfiloh had a rematch against the Park School. Unfortunately, Park won this second meeting, ending Beth Tfiloh's season. By reaching the Third Circuit Semifinals, Beth Tfiloh demonstrated that it is one of the top four teams in the 34-team Third Judicial Circuit--a region that includes all of Baltimore and Harford counties.

Brooke D. ‘16 and Alex R. ‘16 led the team as co-captains and were selected as circuit all-stars. BT parent Marc Dorman and Jules Szanton served as coaches, and "coach emeritus" Elden Schneider offered significant assistance to the team. Alyssa M. ‘17 and Andrew A. ’17, also selected as circuit all-stars, will serve as co-captains for next season. Team members Yael H. ‘17, Ryan S. ‘17, and Natan G. ‘19 were selected as circuit all-stars as well.

The 2015-2016 team also included Tyler M. ‘16, Ezra S. ‘18, Aaron N. ‘19, Ben S. ‘18, and Daniel B. ‘17. Each of the 12 members of the team had starting roles in at least one winning match.

Congratulations to the entire team on an outstanding season!
