Get to Know Rabbi Furman

By:  Amanda S. ‘16
As students arrived to school on the first day of classes, many looked at their schedules and saw a new name teaching Bible and Rabbinics. Although unfamiliar with Rabbi Furman, they were eager to meet him and discover what he had in store for their Judaic studies. While Rabbi Furman’s students have since learned the ins and outs of his class, the newspaper staff has striven to give the whole community the inside scoop on this new and exciting teacher.

Attending public school until 11th grade, Rabbi Furman began learning at a yeshiva in Monsey where he studied with the renowned Rabbi Berel Wein, “a great rabbi who taught him very important aspects of Judaism.” After finishing his studies, Rabbi Furman served as the principal for the girls’ section of the YULA School in Los Angeles, where he also taught a class in accounting. Although he loved living in LA and still misses the great weather, Rabbi Furman and his family also love Baltimore. Before teaching at Beth Tfiloh, Rabbi Furman taught at Yeshivat Rambam and then at the Yeshiva of Greater Washington in Silver Spring. When looking for a school that was a bit closer to home, Rabbi Furman chose BT after his neighbor, our very own Mrs. Daniel, suggested it.

This year, Rabbi Furman hopes to develop strong relationships with his students and make an impact on their lives in some way. Although everything still seems fairly new to him, he reassures that in no time he will adapt to the Beth Tfiloh environment. Justin W.’ 16 is “very excited to be in Rabbi Furman’s class and can’t wait for more classes!” Everyone welcomes Beth Tfiloh’s new teacher and looks forward to see how Rabbi Furman will impact this school!
