The Sky's the Limit: Sixth Grade Builds Skyscrapers

Ms. Shrier’s 6th grade class is currently studying the Northeast region of the United States as part of their unit on the geography, culture, resources and industry of the four U.S regions. They have looked at the defining features of NYC, Boston and Philadelphia and have discussed the utility of skyscrapers. “To illustrate the usefulness and necessity of skyscrapers, we built our own!” explains Ms. Shrier. Students competed in teams to build the tallest freestanding structure that used the fewest number of resources and cost the least in Manhattan real-estate. “Our scholars worked in teams to plan, problem solve, build and then eat. It turned out to be harder than we expected, but we enjoyed it nonetheless."

Congratulations to the winning team: Avital D. ‘21, Danna B. ’21, Nethaniel L. ’21 and Benjamin V. ’21.
