Et Tu, Brute?

“The famous scene of Caesar's death has been enacted thousands of different ways on the stage and on screen because Shakespeare has left few instructions about how the scene should play out. In fact, Caesar's death takes up only two lines and two stage directions in the play,” observes Mrs. Jaffe, Middle School English teacher.

Mrs. Jaffe presented the challenge of blocking this scene and memorizing Shakespeare's lines to her eighth graders. “Students were given the freedom to incorporate a modern twist with respect to attire and props; however, they had to stay true to each character's lines and motivation,” says Mrs. Jaffe of the students’ guidelines.
