Girls' Tennis Championship Triumph

By: Hannah C. '16
As the fall sports season draws to a close, the girls’ tennis team has surely not disappointed. After finishing the regular season with a 4-3 record in the IAAM “B” Conference, the team soared into the 2014 tennis championships, held at McDonogh School, with high expectations.

The tournament, which took place from October 20-24, featured two “pink days” for “A” and “B” conference schools in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Throughout the week, the girls’ tennis team fought hard and earned second place, tying with Glenelg Country School overall in the “B” Conference.

Not only did the team triumph, but the number one doubles team, Aly C. ’15 and Jessica S. ’17, also won gold in their individual tournament. After winning 6-2; 6-4 over St. Timothy’s School, Jessica commented that she and her partner “were determined to win, kept a positive mentality, and played [their] hardest.” While the number one doubles team achieved their goal of reaching gold, they were not the only members of the team to succeed at this year’s tournament. Both the number two (Allison R. ’17 and Molly A. ’17) and three doubles (Rachel Y. ’17 and Daniella R. ’16) teams reached the championship game of their bracket and received silver medals. Teva V. ’17, playing number two singles, and Hannah C. ‘16, playing number one singles, both reached the quarterfinals of their brackets. Everyone was pleased with the spectacular finish to a great year.
