Meet the Cardin Family

Meet Megan and Jon Cardin and their children, Dorothy and Micah.
Jon Cardin’s Beth Tfiloh Congregation history goes back several generations to his grandfather, Judge Meyer Cardin, one of Beth Tfiloh’s earliest members. Jon attended Beth Tfiloh’s day school through 8th grade (he graduated a few years before the high school was created), and spent “more of the first 14 years of my life there than at home or anywhere else,” he recounts. Megan came onto the scene in 2010 when Rabbi Wohlberg officiated at their wedding. Now, she has dinner with the Wohlbergs at least once a year and sometimes invites Jon to join.

Today, the Cardins’ children – Dorothy, age 7, and Micah, age 5 – attend services at Beth Tfiloh and go to The Park School. They are “amazing performers,” according to Jon. “Dorothy likes learning about Judaism through arts and crafts projects in Hebrew School and both our girls love getting grape juice and candy on Shabbat,” shares Megan.

The Cardins enjoy the sense of community at Beth Tfiloh. “We catch up with our friends, young and old, on Shabbat,” says Jon, managing partner at the Law Office of Jon S. Cardin and a Maryland State legislator representing Pikesville, Lutherville, Reisterstown and Owings Mills. Adds Megan, a manager of public affairs for a branch of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), “Beth Tfiloh is a place where Jon feels safe to be spiritual and where his kids enjoy learning and experiencing Jewish life and friends.”

The Cardin family is looking forward to spending the High Holidays with their Beth Tfiloh family. “We get to take a deep breath and put the mundane secular world aside for a few days and enjoy the spirituality of Jewish holiness with family and friends,” shares Megan. “One of us will enjoy the tzimis and soup; the other will enjoy the gefilte fish and honey.”

“I love to come to BT on Rosh Hashanah,” adds Jon. “I’ll see many of my same friends from kindergarten over 45 years ago, who return to pray and renew our souls and connections.”
