BT Bar/Bat Mitzvah Teens Respond to House Explosion
BT’s Bar/Bat Mitzvah class of 2021 jumped into action upon hearing about this week's house explosion in Park Heights.
All summer, the Bar/Bat Mitzvah Class of 2021 class has met regularly via Zoom, where they focused both on learning about different mitzvot and performing mitzvot and acts of chesed. So when they heard about the house explosion in Park Heights earlier this week, they jumped into action.
Audra Stern, a class parent and shul Social Action Committee representative, asked whether there was anything BT could do to help our neighbors who had only hours earlier been victims of a terrible explosion. While the news reported that there was nothing needed at that time, the group contacted Ronnie Rosenbluth, a community activist and owner of Tov Pizza, to see how they could help. Ronnie said meals were needed for the more than two hundred people working on the safety and cleanup efforts. The group immediately donated to the Beth Tfiloh charity fund to purchase meals for the first responders and volunteers.
The Bar/Bat Mitzvah Class of 2021 are always working to serve the needs of our neighbors throughout the greater Baltimore community. Previous acts of chesed this class performed this summer include calling and writing letters to BT congregation's senior members, packing lunches for those in need, and writing letters to Israeli children who lost a family member during their service in the IDF. These children were supposed to come to Capitol Camps for two weeks this summer, but their plans were thwarted by COVID.
Thank you to Audra and the Bar/Bat Mitzvah Class of 2021 for putting into action what you are learning in your Bar/Bat Mitzvah lessons.
