Lisa Hackam, 2020 Annual Campaign ChairLisa and David Hackam moved to Baltimore with their family in August 2014 and immediately found a home for their educational needs at Beth Tfiloh Dahan community school. They have four children: Rachel ‘21, Samuel ‘23, Gabriel ’28, and Jonathan, who will start seventh grade at Baltimore Lab School this fall.
“BT has provided a loving, inspiring, and challenging academic environment where our children can grow not only as good students but as well-rounded spiritual individuals who are growing more confident with their place in the world,” says Lisa.
“I have always been active in my children’s schools and feel passionately that to make a school work, you need a partnership between parents and the school,” adds Lisa. “By accepting the position of chair for the 2020 Annual Campaign, I feel like I can help raise funds to help the school and the shul meet their goals for all our children!”
Ellyn and Stephen Polakoff, 2020 Annual Campaign Vice Chairs
Ellyn and Stephen Polakoff have been connected to BT since 1990 when their daughter, Dara ’05, attended PreSchool. They reconnected in 2001 when Dara chose BT as her high school. It was at that time that the Polakoffs became Beth Tfiloh synagogue members as well. Ellyn and Stephen’s grandchildren, Lilly '22, Sophie '22, and Asher '24, children of Nancy and Ben, are current Beth Tfiloh students.
The Polakoffs have always said that “BT children are real mensches.” They note that “the young adults who graduate from BT are kind, compassionate and confident, but most importantly we are seeing BT children become caring young adults with a strong connection to Judaism and the BT community.”
More recently, Ellyn was chair of the grandparent ambassador group, engaging Beth Tfiloh grandparents through events, school tours and newsletters. This past year, Ellyn and Stephen co-chaired SPOTLIGHT 2019, helping Beth Tfiloh raise over 1 million dollars towards the school’s scholarship fund.
The Polakoffs are thrilled to take on the role of vice chairs for the 2020 Annual Campaign because “BT is a pillar of our community and an institution that embodies all the values we hope to nurture in the generations to come.”
