  • Q. How much homework will my child receive each night?

    Kindergarten: one night/week starting around November
    1st grade: about 15 minutes/night
    2nd grade: about 20 minutes/night
    3
    rd-4th grade: about 30 minutes/night
    In addition, there is nightly reading for all of our students.
  • Q. How does the Lower School address children's social and emotional wellness?

    We ensure that the academic, social, emotional and behavioral wellbeing of each child is being addressed and fostered. The development of character skills, including resilience, self-control, self-regulation, empathy, assertion and creative problem-solving are at the heart of the Lower School experience.
     
    To this end, the Lower School Guidance Counselor oversees the implementation of the Responsive Classroom approach in our classrooms, which seeks to emphasize that social, emotional, and academic learning are all proactively taught within our classrooms.
  • Q. How is the Lower School day structured?

    Our Kindergarten students remain with their anchor teacher all day. The daily schedule includes a period of Hebrew language and a period of Judaic Studies, as well as opening and closing meetings. Our First through Fourth Grades have General Studies in the morning and Judaic Studies and Hebrew Language in the afternoon. All Beth Tfiloh students receive instruction in Science, Art, Library, Science, Music, Technology, and Physical Education.
  • Q. What special activities does Beth Tfiloh offer Lower School students?

    Our Lower School calendar is filled with exciting, interesting, and varied programs throughout the year. Our Sunday Sports program is extremely popular with our students, who enjoy playing soccer in the fall and basketball in the winter. During school, students participate in a number of field trips each year related to their curriculum. Organized after-school activities include art, ballet, karate, and magic along with sports clubs. Special Shabbat and holiday programs and celebrations provide wonderful opportunities for our students and their families to learn about their heritage and enjoy being with their peers.
  • Q. Are there extended-day options for Lower School students?

    Beth Tfiloh offers supervision for students who may be dropped off as early as 7:30 a.m. Our after-school options, including the activities mentioned above are available until 5:00 p.m., and supervision is available until 6:00 pm.
