May 11, Desert hikes a success!

Shalom to the Parents and Friends of the Wonderful Class of 2017,

It is Wednesday night, May 10, and our kids have successfully completed the desert section of our trip.  Coming out of the desert the class agreed that it was a successful time even though some of the time they had to reformulate it  because of the weather, primarily, and also because of some of the medical conditions of some of our kids.  One of the big hits of the experience was a night hike and the teams of kids had just a fabulous time.
Back at the hotel in Tel Aviv they rested – some napped, some went to the beach.  It was a low key reentry into society which was very much appreciated by most of the kids.   Tonight we are bringing in an Anglo doctor who is going to see any kids who need it.  In fact, Cherie went room to room checking on which kids had sore throats, which kids didn’t feel well, some who maybe thought they didn’t feel well.  We are trying to pull it all together so that the stomach virus that has been going around gets stopped in its tracks.
The only big trip that they took today was to Independence Hall.  They went back to the hotel and there is a rooftop deck there and since it was a gorgeous night they had group games there  and went to bed early, which they certainly needed.  After the doctor checks out everyone, they will go on with the next part of the trip.
Today, which means Thursday, the kids are going to the museum for the blind and the deaf, a very, very powerful experience for the kids, at least it has been in the past.  They will also be going to a rehab facility of a medical center, a place called Save a Child’s Heart.  This is for children who have heart disease which is open to an international host of people,  an example of chesed (compassion and kindness), something you don’t usually hear about the Israelis.  It is really a powerful experience as well.  The parents even come in to the center and stay with the children while they are recuperating in their rehab.  It is a pretty amazing place and I think our kids will learn a great deal about compassion and kindness from it.
That is what they are doing on Thursday.  We will continue to keep you updated.  They are getting ready for their host shabbat.  We will let you know if  there are any issues there.  All in all the trip is going along marvelously.  They are having an amazing time.
Stay well, and stay connected.
