Boys Varsity Basketball - Warriors Even League Record With Key Victory

Coach Braun
Due to a rescheduled game, The Key School traveled to Pikesville to take on Beth Tfiloh just five days after the Obezags downed the Warriors 38-35 in Annapolis. In the 1st meeting both teams struggled to score (27% from the floor for Key and 29% for Beth Tfiloh), but the Obezags made six 3-pointers while the Warriors only managed two from long range to account for the difference.

In the first quarter of the return engagement, it appeared that it might be a similar story. Key made three 3’s in the opening six minutes of the game to take a 9-7 lead, but the Warriors answered with a 13-0 run, holding the Obezags scoreless from the 2:40 mark in the opening quarter until just 3:35 left in the half.  Key then ran off a 14-4 spurt to pull within one, but Harris G. '19 scored with four seconds left in the half to make it 26-23 Warriors. Harris scored 13 of his game high 25 points in the 1st half.

Key scored on their first possession of the second half to cut the lead back to one, but Kameron G. '18 immediately scored to put the lead back to three. Kameron scored 8 of his 18 points in the third.

The Warriors led 38-32 heading into the fourth quarter. Beth Tfiloh maintained a 5-8 point lead for most of the quarter, but a transition jumper by the Obezags cut the margin to three with 3:15 to play.  Following a couple of empty possesions, Harris G. '19 got fouled in the act of shooting and made both the basket and the free throw to push the lead back to six at 45-39 with 2:22 remaining.  Key managed a couple of close baskets while BT countered with a single free throw by Harris to make the score 46-43 with 38 seconds left.  On the ensuing possession Key missed a three, and Glazer was fouled after securing the rebound.  He made one of two, and then a pair of missed free throws and a foul on the other end put Glazer back at the line with 10 seconds left where he hit both to ice the game.

Harris G. '19 finished with a game high 25 points, including 3/6 from 3-point range and 4/5 on free throws. He also had six rebounds.  Kameron G. '18 stuffed the stat sheet with 18 points, 6/7 on free throws, 14 rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Oren P. '18 was another key contributor with four points, 11 rebounds, and three blocked shots.
