Warriors Turn Tables on Bruins in Boys Varsity Basketball
After falling to Park School on Tuesday, BT reversed the result on the road Wednesday with a 60-45 win.
Due to weather, Old Court Road rivals Beth Tfiloh and Park were forced to play 2 games in 2 days. The 1st game, at Beth Tfiloh, saw the visiting Bruins lock down the Warriors, holding them to a regular season low 41 points and winning 43-41. Less then 24 hours later the 2 teams were at it again, this time at Park School, and the Warriors showed from the start that this would not be a repeat of the previous day.
Park held Beth Tfiloh's leading scorer, Gav L. '19, to just 8 points in the 1st game and came out in a Box-1 on him in game 2 determined to duplicate that performence. However, the rest of the Warriors scored on their 1st 2 possesions and, after Park hit to make it 4-3, BT scored the next 5 points to force Park out of the Box-1. On the very next possesion Gav nailed a 3, and a basket by Josh F. '19 made it a 10-0 run with Beth Tfiloh leading 14-3. During the run, Harris G. '19 hit a 3-pointer and tallied 3 assists. The Bruins then closed the quarter on a 6-0 run, and the Warriors led 14-10 after 1.
Gav opened the scoring in the 2nd quarter with another 3, assisted on a basket to Josh, and scored on the break off of another assist from Harris as the Warriors stretched the lead to 21-11. Park cut the lead to 7, but a buzzer beating layup by Ben M. '20 made it 27-18 Warriors at the half.
Gav hit another 3 early in the 3rd, but the 2 teams managed just 1 more basket, a 2-pointer by Park, until the 4 minute mark of the period before Park scored again to cut it 30-22. Gav followed that up with another 3, and after the Bruins went on a 6-0 run, Eli G. '20 converted a 3 point play followed by 3 free throws by Gav to give the Warriors a 39-29 lead after 3.
Gav's 5th 3 of the game gave the Warriors a 48-34 lead and, after Park cut it to 49-40, Harris scored 7 points in the final 2:20 to put the game away.
Gav L. '19 led all scorers with 20 points. Eli G. '20 scored 12, and Harris G. '19 scored 10 to go along with 7 assists.
The win gives the Warriors (7-4) a 1 game lead on the Bruins (6-5) in the C Conference and puts them in the driver seat for the 3rd seed in the playoffs with 1 game left for each team. Beth Tfiloh will face Saints Peter & Paul tomorrow (5:00 PM at BT) while Park will play Cristo Rey on Monday.
