BT High School’s Math Team Gets Top Scores at Math Tournament

High School math teacher Mr. Bradley Miller recaps the exciting weekend at Yale:

After a fairly long bus ride north on Friday afternoon, we arrived in New Haven. We quickly checked in to the hotel, changed and went to the Slifka Center on Yale’s campus for Erev Shabbat Services and a meal with other Jewish MMATHS competitors. Between services and meals on Shabbat we found some time to walk around, see some sights and throw a Frisbee around.

On Sunday morning, we prayed and ate a quick bite, then walked over to where the MMATHS competition was being held. We checked in and got ready for the day’s proceedings. The first round was an individual test with about 10 very challenging questions. BT’s own Chaim B. ‘21 made it as a finalist in the individual round, so he was invited to participate in an additional round of individual testing. Next was the Mixer Round, where students wer shuffled from different schools into teams of 4-6. Jordan L. '21, Noah B. '21 and Sam R. '20 each competed on one of the top three teams! Finally, we got our BT team back together for the Team Round, where we placed 12th overall out of about 30 teams.

There was a brief award ceremony before we boarded the bus to head back south. We stopped for a quick bite in Teaneck, NJ, where students had their pick of several fine kosher options. We arrived late on Sunday night, which made for a rough start on Monday morning, but it was worth it!

Congratulations to all our competitors: Ari B. '21, Avi G. '21, Anna A.'21, Caleb G. '21, Chaim B. '21, Gabi D. '21, Ethan T. '20, Sam R. '20, Sammy R. '20, Ryan J. '21, Noah B. '21, Jordan L. '21, and Eliav H. '21
