Secret Service Agents Visit Seventh Grade

An integral part of the government is the United States Secret Service, Agent Johann Schlager of the United States Secret Service came to our class this week with several other agents to discuss the mission of the Secret Service as it relates to the money supply in the United States and to presidential protection.

Agent Schlager talked about the dual mission of the Secret Service. We learned that one of the jobs of the Secret Service is to protect the money supply of the United States from counterfeiters. Agent Schlager brought several counterfeit bills that students were allowed to examine under black light. He explained many ways by which a counterfeit bill can be detected.

The Secret Service is also responsible for the protection of certain people in our federal government, including the President of the United States. We got to look at a presidential vehicle, and handle equipment used by the Secret Service in both criminal investigations and the protection of people within our government.

The seventh grade REALLY enjoyed this visit and appreciated the Secret Service coming to see us!
