Ellie Goldenberg '12 z"l Theater Hall of Fame Inauguration

Beth Tfiloh Dahan Community School unveiled an exquisite Theater Hall of Fame Wall, in loving memory of Ellie. The wall pays tribute to Beth Tfiloh alumni who are excelling in the arts, much like Ellie was in her years at Beth Tfiloh and the University of Miami. The first Theater Hall of Fame recipient was award-winning film maker, Evan Margolis ’08.

The Goldenberg family established the Theater Hall of Fame award to honor a BT alum “who was deserving of an award not only because of his or her talent, but because of his character – since Ellie herself was a combination of God-given talent and character, surrounded by passion and midot,” as Dr. Zipora Schorr explained when introducing the new award at Fall Convocation.
Throughout high school, Evan performed in all the plays and musicals, helped design sets, and created arrangements for BT’s choirs. In 2009 he founded the Beth Tfiloh Community Theater, of which he is still the artistic director.

Today Evan lives in New York with his wife, Alexa (Picciotto) '09. He has worked on films and TV shows for Netflix and HBO, has directed film and theater festivals, founded his own film company, and is currently producing his first feature film, “Suddenly Sylvia” about dementia and how artistic opportunities can benefit the elderly. As Beth Tfiloh Arts Director Mrs. Diane Smith described Evan, “He’s kind, caring, considerate, quick to smile and has a wonderful sense of humor. I can’t think of a better candidate for this Inaugural Arts Award and I know in my heart that Ellie would be very pleased.
