Judy & Charles (z’l) Caplan: A Legacy of Leadership

Charles Caplan (z”l) was a respected real estate attorney, an ethical, “straight shooter” who played by the rules. His wife Judy describes the softer side of Charles. She lovingly refers to him as “a giving and devoted husband, a loving father, a true friend, and a wonderful life partner.” Married by Rabbi Rosenblatt in 1964, they were later blessed with two loving sons, Gregory and Keith. Judy and Charles enjoyed many years as an active family within the Beth Tfiloh community. Both boys attended the Hebrew School and became Bar Mitzvah at Beth Tfiloh.
The Caplans’ ties to the Congregation precede both Charles and Judy, as Charles’ family dedicated one of the first Torahs and Judy’s family was involved in creating the first Nursery School. As their boys grew older, Charles became involved with the Seating Committee and eventually was appointed Chairman of the Board. Judy recounts, “Having grown up at Beth Tfiloh, becoming Chairman of the Board meant the world to Charles. He was so proud to serve as a leader of the Congregation and it became so much a part of our lives.” Judy supported him at his side at every function and every Shabbat.

In her time of need, through Charles’ illness and untimely death, Beth Tfiloh embraced their family. “Charles’ decision to leave a bequest for Beth Tfiloh was a natural one; he wanted to help take care of Beth Tfiloh, a congregation that had helped to take such great care of him and our family.”

Since his passing, Judy continues to feel the support and love of her Beth Tfiloh family and is comforted by the fact that his wonderful legacy will live on through the future of Beth Tfiloh.
