Be part of a meaningful evening of hope, healing, and solidarity as we gather to benefit American Friends of Nir Oz (AFNO) — an opportunity to stand with a community forever changed, but not broken. This year's Penn Lecture event is a fundraiser to support the people of Kibbutz Nir Oz, whose lives were shattered by the October 7th attacks, and whose resilience is a testament to the unbreakable spirit of Am Yisrael. The event will feature acclaimed author and political commentator Douglas Murray, along with special guest and October 7th survivor Gadi Moses, who will share his personal story of resilience. 

American Friends of Nir Oz (AFNO) was founded in 2024 to mobilize U.S. support for Kibbutz Nir Oz in the wake of the October 7th terrorist attacks. The scale of what happened is hard to grasp: one in four residents of Nir Oz were murdered or kidnapped. A staggering loss that has reshaped this once-thriving, close-knit community, the remaining residents now carry the weight of that unimaginable loss as they try to rebuild and move forward.
 
AFNO’s mission is clear:
 
  1. To care for the people of Nir Oz as they navigate long-term recovery, and
  2. To help rebuild a resilient and thriving kibbutz community
 
This endeavor is a Zionist mission for the 21st century - to stand with a community that has always stood for hope, perseverance, and the pioneering spirit of Israel. As Nir Oz’s founding motto reminds us: In the face of crisis, we move forward.

The Annual Helene and Stanley Z. Penn Lecture was established by Helene to commemorate the life of her beloved husband, Stanley Z. Penn. Stanley was an active Beth Tfiloh member, a successful businessman, attorney and a respected community leader.
