Faculty Focus: Mr. Elie Fagan

A native Baltimorean, Mr. Fagan made alliyah to Israel with his parents as a teenager. Mr. Fagan served in the IDF in the Military Police and after 3 years of compulsory military service, subsequently joined the Israel Police where he served as a Sergeant Detective and a Hostage Negotiator.

During his career in the Israel Police, he served as Head of the Juvenile Unit and found that he loved interacting with the schools and teaching children and considered teaching to be an ideal second career once he retired from the Israel Police. Mr. Fagan worked with juveniles and as a mentor for new detectives in his squad and also worked on international cases and crisis negotiating in hostage and attempted suicide cases. At the same time, he began to teach part-time in various schools in Israel.

On a Sabbatical from the Israel police force, Mr. Fagan accepted a teaching position in the U.S. at Yeshivat Rambam, where he taught Hebrew.

Mr. Fagan says that when he finally retired from the police force and decided to move back to the U.S., "I immediately knew that Beth Tfiloh was the only place where I’d really love to teach. That’s due mainly to the uniqueness of this school, the wonderful staff who have such a deep devotion to their profession as educators and the children who are just fantastic."

Mr. Fagan teaches Middle School Ivrit and Judaics . "I totally love it and look forward to continuing doing what I can in making our youths appreciate and learn from our past as well as mastering Modern Hebrew as our reborn language."
