Dr. Eli Velder to be honored by Goucher College

Dr. Velder will be honored on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at 8 p.m. in the Haebler Memorial Chapel at Goucher College, with a lecture by award-winning author, Jonathan Kozol, entitled, "The Soul of a Profession". The event is free and open to the public, but tickets must be reserved by calling 410-337-6333 or by e-mailing boxoffice@goucher.edu.

During his five decades at Goucher, Dr. Velder has taught an impressive breadth of courses, including the history of education; the philosophy of education; educational psychology; schools and the disadvantaged; and pre-industrial, industrial, and post-industrial societies’ issues in education.

Eli also taught at Beth Tfiloh Hebrew School and Baltimore Hebrew University many years ago and was on the Board of BHU. Many of his former Beth Tfiloh students attest to the significant impact he had on them as well as so many within our Jewish community.

Dr. Velder serves a number of various statewide organizations, including the Maryland State Task Force on the Future of Teacher Education, the Maryland Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, is treasurer of the Maryland Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, and is chair of the Maryland Association of Small Teacher Education Programs.

We extend Mazel Tov to Eli and his wife, Zahava, on this outstanding professional accomplishment.
