From the Vilna Ghetto to the Bielski Partisan Camp

Dr. David Engles will present the story of the Holocaust survival of his father, Lazar Engles, based on his father's book Our Partisan Kingdom. The presentation will recount his father's escape from the Vilna ghetto with the help of a German army officer, his miraculous escape from a death march, and his experiences with the Bielski partisans (as depicted in the Hollywood movie "Defiance") in the forests of Belrus as they avoided capture by the Germans, and overcame the challenges of the forest with amazingly clever and inventive responses.
