Lower School Arts

Beth Tfiloh understands that children construct meaningful understandings when they interact with other children and materials in their environment.  Involvement in the Arts promotes social, emotional, cognitive, language, and physical development.  Arts activities engage student’s minds and bodies, significantly strengthening the development of the whole child.

Visual Art

Visual Art classes in the Lower School offer students an introduction to the elements of art (color, form, line, shape, space, texture, and value) and the principles of design (emphasis, balance, contrast, repetition, proportion, movement, and unity) through various projects. These projects give students exposure to a variety of mediums and techniques while learning about different artists and their styles. Students create a special Shabbat themed art project in connection with their Judaic studies.

Creative Movement/Dance:

Beth Tfiloh ‘s Creative Movement offers children a way to express themselves through dance and music in order to stimulate the imagination. Dance skills combine physical and mental skills and offers social benefits which improves sensitivity, understanding, appreciation, and consideration for others. The art of dance helps with a child’s development of creativity, focus, and discipline, which benefit them in all areas of education.

Instrumental Music:

Beth Tfiloh’s Instrumental Music provides students with exposure to a variety of instruments including trumpet, violin, and percussion. Instrumental music nurtures sensory development, the development of fine and gross motor skills, poise, confidence, and a love of music.

Drama Activities:

Beth Tfiloh’s Drama activities provide children with highly motivational learning experiences and help explore and develop each student’s individual talents and capabilities.  Using role-play, improvisation, creativity, and self-expression, we can foster self-esteem, group cooperation, increase self-discipline, and concentration. Our activities give students the chance to be successful and if students can succeed at Drama their other work in school will be affected positively.
