The Seymour Yaffe Scholars Program for Advanced Jewish Learning. Seymour “Siggy” Yaffe, past president of Beth Tfiloh Congregation, was a most beloved and respected member of Beth Tfiloh.
American Law and Jewish Law: Similarities and Differences
Rabbi Jonathan Sachs has said, “True freedom requires the rule of law and justice and a judicial system in which the rights of some are not secured by the denial of rights to others.”
Judaism and the United States of America share a commitment to law as a foundational value: Jews adhere to halacha, given to us by God; Americans to the Constitution, created by the founding fathers of our country. The Divine vs. the human — they share much in common, but the differences are profound in everything ranging from how to live and the right to die. Come and study those laws that unite us and those that divide us, and how we have found common ground in which to operate over time.
Special fees apply. Schedule: Wednesday evenings at 6:30 pm for dinner (beginning 11/29) followed by the Shiur at 7 pm.
