Extra Curricular Activities and Clubs

The school provides a wide range of extra-curricular activities and special interest groups under the supervision of Mrs. Cherie Brownstein, Director of Activities, and various faculty advisors. High School students can also participate in the High School newspaper, INSIGHT, the school yearbook, Kadima and the literary magazine, Shalshelet. New clubs and activities develop each year in response to student interest and initiative. Beth Tfiloh Science and Engineering Club members participate in the National Engineering Design Challenge (NEDC) at Johns Hopkins University.

Each year, the High School Creative Arts Department presents two major stage productions, usually one musical and one non-musical production. In addition, there exist a plethora of private and group instruction and performance opportunities in photography, art studio, dance, drama, vocal music, musical theatre, instrumental music and technical theatre. Moreover, the School supports numerous arts honor societies and celebrates accomplishment and growth in this important educational arena.

From time to time, special programs will be planned which will serve to focus on the basic values, practices, and holidays of Judaism. These will include Mishmar, shabbatonim, trips, and various Hesed projects. These programs touch on the very essence of a Beth Tfiloh experience, and it is expected that each student will participate in the planning and implementation of at least some activity.

In addition to the regular school clubs and activities, students are encouraged to participate in national youth groups such as NCSY, USY, NFTY, B'nei Akiva, BBYO, and other groups sponsored by students' synagogues. Beth Tfiloh also maintains an extensive Youth Activities department directed by Cherie Brownstein.

Beth Tfiloh students are also encouraged to participate in national programs designed to expose Jewish students to national and international issues. Our students have been active participants in the Yeshiva University Model United Nations. We also send students to Washington for the Panim-EI-Panim seminar in Grade 11 in which Jewish students gather to discuss the relationship between American politics and the Jewish Community.

Our students also participate in the Statewide Mock Trial competition. In addition, Beth Tfiloh sponsors a cultural arts program supported by the Macks Art Fund which allows our students to explore various forms of artistic expression through visits to art museums, operatic and symphonic performances, archeological digs, and dramatic productions.
