New Lower School Principal appointed

As previously announced, Mrs. Nina Wand and Mrs. Susan Yurow have made the very carefully considered decision that this will be their last year in their capacity of principal and assistant principal at Beth Tfiloh. They will work with Dr. Holzman this summer to ensure a smooth transition, and have assured us that we can continue to count on them as the valuable resources that they are.

Dr. Holzman comes to us from the Flint Hill School in Fairfax, Virginia, considered one of the D.C. area’s most prestigious schools. She holds a doctorate in education and human development from Harvard University, and a master’s in reading from Harvard. Dr. Holzman has demonstrated outstanding leadership in education, and is respected as an award-winning and collaborative educational leader and mentor.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Dr. Holzman has been an active member of her synagogue, where she has served as a member of the executive board, religious school committee, and family education committee, among others.

Dr. Holzman’s own words tell the story best: “Beth Tfiloh’s reputation as a remarkable, close-knit community that embraces excellence and treasures individuals resonates with my lifelong passion for children, their families and their education. When I read Beth Tfiloh’s mission statement with its dual focus on the individual and academic excellence, I felt a unique kinship to the school.”

We are pleased that Dr. Elana Weissman will be expanding her administrative role, providing support and assistance to Dr. Holzman in the areas of professional development, student services, and the social and emotional well-being of our children.

Dr. Schorr acknowledged the efforts of Dodi Samuel, a representative of the Board of Trustees, who played an important role in providing input during the search process.

We look forward to welcoming Dr. Holzman to the BT family as the newest member of our school’s outstanding staff of professionals.
