Holocaust Survivors Commemorate Yom HaShoah with BT Students and Staff
Students had the opportunity to spend time with the survivors over brunch, hearing their stories first-hand, asking questions and gaining a better understanding of the circumstances of their escape. The brunch was followed by a formal commemoration ceremony, where students and staff recounted the survivors’ stories before inviting them up on stage to light memorial candles in the memory of the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust. Throughout the day, students and faculty members recited the names honored the memories of those who perished in the Holocaust by reciting their names.
The Holocaust survivors who participated in today’s commemoration are Mr. Howard and Mrs. Esther Kaidanow, Mr. Herbert Hane, Mrs. Martha Weiman, Mrs. Vera Kestenberg, Mrs. Edith Cord, Mr. Morris Rosen, Mrs. Golda Kalib, Mrs. Halina Silber, Mrs. Rose Mantelmacher and Mrs. Ruth Goldstein. Mrs. Silber lit a candle with her three grandsons, Jeremy ‘20, Josh ‘19 and Matt ‘23.
