4th Grade B'tzelem Elokim Program

Our 4th Graders welcomed students from St. Paul School for the annual B'Tzelem Elokim (Hebrew for "in the image of G-d") program which emphasizes that every person carries a spark of Hashem within them and is deserving of Derech Eretz (respect), regardless of his or her beliefs or abilities.

The St. Pauls students were welcomed by Rabbi Aaron Frank, Lower School Principal. Mrs. Sheila Lichter explained how each student would attend a series of three workshops during the morning. Mrs. Shoshana Porter told the group a story about the "hidden start" that can be found inside every apple.

The students broke up into three groups. Mrs. Emily Levin gave a workshop about the hearing impaired. Mrs. Amy Sefret, an occupational therapist, explained the functions of the brain and led exercises to increase the flow of oxygen to the brain. Mrs. Jill Eidelman demonstrated the use of braille as well as various technological devices used at the Maryland School for the Blind.

The students learned how accmodations are made to insure that those less abled than them can be held to learn and function in society. Everyone enjoyed making new friends.
